AM NEMEIN. I AM EMOTIONALLY DETACHED FROM MY KILLINGS. I AM NOT, THEREFORE, A MURDERER. I AM AN INSTRUMENT OF NEMESIS, A PUNISHER. This is a theme running through a number of blogs on the Dark Web, written by a serial killer. He is highly intelligent and employs philosophical argument to justify a series of gruesome murders. However, he describes the killings in lurid detail, and with such gloating relish, that he utterly negates his delusion of detachment and reveals himself to be a cold-blooded, narcissistic psychopath. Sheehan and his team rush headlong down a series of blind alleys in the pursuit of the psychopath, who continues to murder his victims with impunity. He is fiendishly clever, utterly ruthless, and tests Sheehan's famed intuition to the limit. Indeed, Sheehan only learns the truth during a horrific climax when some members of his team experience a most harrowing ‘laceration of the soul’ that they will never be able to forget. It is unlikely that the reader will either.

The Dark Web Murders…“When horror meets a psychopath, hell is what happens”

Chief Investigator Jim Sheehan and his team converge to investigate the murder of Judge Trevor Neeson, the first of many, leading to the pursuit of a psychopath, that continues to murder his victims with impunity. The psychopath has grown a large following on the dark web. He is killing his victims with explicit detail and publishing contents with pseudo narcissistic philosophy that reveals his monstrosity. Sheehan’s intuition will be tested to the limit, as the psychopath is shrewdly mischievous, cunny and devious. As the investigation grows tense with more dead bodies, Sheehan will be fated to learn the truth about the psychopath during a horrific, unforgettable climax readers won’t want to forget.

A harrowing, captivating read. The murder files is the fourth instalment of the Inspector Sheehan Mystery series. It explores the perplexing intricacies of the dark web and the depravities of the educated. Written in a maze of twists, debauchery, puzzles, and blackmails that will make readers question the nature of justice, retribution, and the risks inherent in taking the law into one’s hands. Brian O’Hare is remarkably in his resolution and in the creation of the momentum that builds up conflicts into climax. However, with a slight trim, the Rubicon of the plot could have bonded tighter. Nonetheless, readers will find the two unexpected additions The Dramatis personae and the Northern Ireland Police acronym list helpful to navigate this horror that makes it—A convincing captivating read.

I award 5 stars.
