Robberty Bobberty and the Butterfly Who Lost Her Colours by Author Rachel Coverdale – Book Review

A rhyming delight hides within this little pocket-sized book, packed with educational nuggets and a variety of characters.

Centred around the animals that live outside our own back doors, the story follows them as they explore the natural world and the creatures that live within it. Through the characters’ own curiosity, children will learn interesting facts about nature as well the importance of kindness.

They rhyming format will appeal to all, although there are times that some of the vocabulary choices don’t quite fit the rhythm meaning beginner readers might not always be able to pick up on it; therefore, I would recommend enjoying this book with an adult to ensure the rhyme is delivered well, as it does enhance the delivery of the story.

With vibrant colours expertly blended for effect, the pictures are appealing to children and are certainly unique in appearance. I wasn’t too keen on the front cover – I think this is partly due to the font and the fact that there’s potentially too much going on. If the author were to use a simpler design, I think it would appear somewhat more sophisticated.

The Book Dragon had the opportunity to review this on behalf of the author and found it a delightful little read – perfect for entertaining young readers and for carrying about in your handbag! This book is awarded a well-deserved 4 stars.
