Description
Storms by Phoebe Wilby is a poignant tale that follows eight-year-old Annie Ryan and her siblings as they embark on an unexpected adventure. Instead of the trampoline they hoped for, they receive a caravan and set off on a journey around Australia. Leaving their home in Brisbane during the devastating 1974 floods, the Ryans travel ahead of the storms, but the real challenges lie in the emotional turmoil they face. Annie experiences more heartache and tragedy in one year than most do in a lifetime. This touching story captures the resilience of a young girl navigating the storms of life. Follow Annie in this tale of drama and family fiction, available in books at The Book Dragon.
Author Phoebe Wilby
I was born in Australia and, although Australia still hGas a huge piece of my heart, I regard myself as a citizen of the world. I’m currently living in the Republic of Ireland with my husband. My five children have now flown the nest and this is a new stage in my life. Aside from writing and working full-time, we are renovating a quaint farmhouse. When I say ‘we’, I mean my husband is doing this renovation!
I have been writing since childhood, including horror stories, humour, and poetry, usually about life as I saw it then. My life is still the inspiration for my writing.
I have a background in journalism but only studied for the degree to ‘legitimise’ my writing. While studying for my Bachelor of Journalism, I was blessed to win the Literary Achievement Award for Excellence in Fiction from the Golden Key International Honour Society, for my fictionalised treatment of the September 11, 2001 tragedy in New York. That’s a bit of very creative journalism, there.
