Claire grew up in Middlesex, surrounded by a family of singers, musicians and avid readers. It wasn’t uncommon for her to be backstage at venues like the London Palladium or the Royal Albert Hall, chatting to whichever act her stepdad was playing saxophone for that night. For those of you that have never been backstage at a gig like that, Claire can confirm it is not particularly exciting or glamorous. There was no wild behaviour or juicy gossip. In fact, she was more likely to find the musicians relaxing with a cup of tea, wondering if the out of date milk was still OK to drink!
Those experiences fuelled her own creativity, so it’s no wonder she became a singer and writer herself.
Using animals and humour to convey messages of love, equality, the difficulty of loss and the wisdom of being able to change, Claire has drawn upon her years of writing lyrics for bands to realise a writing ambition.
Dogs of Destiny & Curious Cats is the first of three books, inspired by her love of dogs. The creativity needed to convey a message in a three minute song has been used to its full effect in this story, allowing her to create characters which will entertain both children and adults.
There is a hidden message in this story which so far, no one seems to have figured out. Maybe you can find it? After all, “….the answer has been right in front of you, from the first….”
Claire is currently writing book two from her home in Surrey.
