Kathryn McMurray is a best-selling author with a tragic past. Dalian Rivers is a ranch owner, also with a tragic past. Both coincidentally lost their respective partners around the same time, two years ago, and now, Dalian is ready to move on. Kathryn, or Kat to her friends, isn’t. However, they meet when Kat decides she needs to take some time away from home to get away from it all. And what better place to go to do that than a Dude Ranch in Wyoming, coincidentally the one owned and operated by Dalian. The attraction is instant, but Kat is determined to keep her head and, when Chloe, the beautiful former lingerie model stakes her claim, she is happy for her to pursue. Dalian rejects her for the more subdued but equally beautiful Kat. Chloe appears to back off, pointing out to Kat that Dalian is interested in her, giving her permission to pursue him if she wished.
In the background, we have Jethro Canter and his daughter, Marsha. For some unfathomable reason, Jethro has got it into his head that he needs Dalian’s land and forces his 18-year-old daughter to make eyes at Dalian. When it becomes obvious to Marsha that Dalian isn’t interested in her, she defies her old man and takes a job at the ranch instead. But then there is an attempt on Dalian’s life and Kat, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, is caught in the crossfire. Who has tried to do away with Dalian? Is it Jethro? Chloe? Marsha? Or is there another player!
Barbara’s story will have you sitting on the edge of your seat as try to solve the mystery before the local
lawman does. This is a fast-paced, story of intrigue with believable and engaging characters, great dialogue and a well-thought out story line. There are a few very minor editing issues, but not glaring enough to take you out of the story for too long. The cover denotes that this is a romance, and it most certainly is – with a bit of murder and mayhem thrown in! The blurb is intriguing enough to capture the attention of the reader, eager to know if indeed there blossoming love will be enough to get them through it all intact.
I enjoyed this book and have awarded 5 stars.
