Wandering About Poems 1994-2014 By Author Harry Nicholson – Book Review

This collection spanning 2 decades holds a spread of poems touching on various topics such as the natural world, the passage of time, human nature, shiplore and the sea, specific moments in the poet’s life. The author’s voice is lovely; amicable like chatting with an old friend. The style is lyrical and musical; and the messages of each poem sit comfortably; encouraging reflection long after reading. The structure is a bit meandering; but I think that was the point of this collection– it’s a journey throughout life and as such doesn’t have a set structure. The content is eclectic and offers insights on different aspects of life, or in tight relation to the writer’s experiences. The tone goes from wistful, lyrical, funny, witty etc depending on the poem. The collection flows beautifully.

I award 5 stars.
