Towards Two Moons (Book 2 The Wightblade Chronicles) By Author L Philip Naughton – Book Review

Beniamino Carnevale, still studying at the Academium is experiencing more chaos in his life. Following from the events in book one of The Wightblade Chronicles, Beniamino cannot rest as his life is now at risk. Stronger magic, more revelations, a deadly assassin and an order to kidnap, the world of Terra Nostra is overwhelmed with dark energy and negative entities. Threats to friendship and family means the stakes are rises for Baniamino and all those whom are close to him. Will he be able to survive another year at the Academium of Ventorium?

L. Phillip Naughton’s ‘The Wightblade Chronicles -Towards the Two Moons’ is a fantasy novel, the second of four, following magical and mystical adventures. Recommended for Young Adults due to complex world building and concepts, alongside presentation of the struggles of growing up within friendships and relationships.

I’d recommend this book for young adults, due to the heavy world building in the book.  L. Phillip Naughton continues to create an amazing world, full of magical and mystical beings and is genuinely a unique concept explored in great depth, yet I do think this pushes the book into the elder individuals of the young adult genre due to some of the complex dynamics that the world is created on. I award this book 5 stars.

  1. Storytelling and Narrative Quality – (5 Stars)
    • Towards two moons starts with a  recall of the first book in the series through a short summary which I think is an amazing addition as we continue through a beautifully built magical world. Gripping the reader in from the first Chapter, L. Phillip Naughton’s develops the intriguing Terra Nostra and continues the amazing adventure of Beniamino.
  2. Character Development – (5 Stars)
    • Again we are able to connect with Benaniamino through some tough and stressful situations which allows us as reader to see his development, whilst almost feeling present with him.
  3. Educational and Development Value – (5 Stars)
    • The narrative quality of the story allows the reader to understand and engage in dialogue that is advanced and somewhat complex. The development of world within this book, following the first, allows the reader to expand their creative minds and explore and add new ideas to their version of Terra Nostra.
  4. Emotional Resonance and Impact – (5 Stars)
    • Portrayal of themes such as fear and friendships encourages the reader to explore empathy for the young characters whom are going through a very emotional and high tension experience.
