There was an old fellow from Skye is a book of short limericks. The author embraces the whole philosophy of a limerick in being rhythmical, comic and relatable. Generally this works really well. There were a couple of verses that really had me laughing out loud, although a couple needed a couple of reads to get the punch line and meaning. I couldn’t help think on a number of occasions that the humour was very Dahl-esque. The illustrations throughout the book also worked really well and helped the reader capture the essence of each verse. I really did enjoy the book and would recommend it for some light-hearted humour with a little something for everyone.
I award There Was an Old Fellow from Skye 4 stars.
