The heady days of the 1970s are recorded as a time of emancipation and freedom for a new generation of women. Attitudes were changing and women felt empowered to take control of their lives. But that wasn’t Georgie’s reality. Forced to take a painful look back at her past in order to move forward, she picks her way through six weeks of a summer holiday revisiting a teenage world she has chosen to forget. The ghosts of her past remind us how life is full of mistakes and regret. Self-doubt, euphoria and remorse provide the theme for teenage rebellion in a small Northern town. Georgie’s risky behaviour and immaturity challenge adult authority with devastating consequences.

The Road to Find Out By Author Jackie Watson – Book Review

The Road to Find Out by Author Jackie Watson, is an engaging tale that moves the reader between the past and present, as the main protagonist, Georgie, reminisces on events from the 1970’s that have paved the way forward to her life, as it is stands in the 1990’s. Georgie takes a painful walk through time, and to the six weeks of a summer holiday, after a chance encounter in her present reawakens old feelings and past regrets.

Although a little confusing to start with, as the opening scenes thrust the reader straight into the tumultus feelings of the present Georgie, the narrative itself is so beautifully written and heartfelt, that readers will continue forward with the story regardless. The Author thus taking the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride as Georgie, slips between time and evaluates her life.

Georgie is a realistic character that you can easily relate to and will strike feelings of both empathy and compassion in the reader, as she considers the choices she has made, and the opportunities lost. By the end of the book, readers will be willing her on to make the right decision and find the happiness that she deserves.

The story moves at a good pace, with very little editing issues to distract the reader from their overall enjoyment of the book. I really enjoyed reading, The Road to Find Out, and so I award 4.5 stars.
