This paperback book is aimed at younger readers, and is produced to a high standard, with clear font and large, colourful illustrations. My one niggle is on the first page, when Lily smiles with her mouth open. I was at first confused as to what the large pink blob in the centre of her face is. She is much prettier keeping her mouth closed! That apart, this sweet story will appeal to most children, and particularly animal lovers. An especially well thought out first page (Lily’s smile apart) will have readers
searching for, and counting, the farm animals listed. As stated in the title, the gift of a very hungry Panda from China arrives at Lily’s door. Then begins the quest to discover what he likes to eat. Educational as well as fun, the author skilfully details the preferred foods of all the resident farm animals, before Lily finally discovers what Panda likes. In addition to reading, this is a book that younger children can learn from. The diversity of specific diets, different foods to be tried, colours to be identified, and
counting, to name but a few. A well thought out book that ticks lots of boxes.
I award 4 stars.
