They say the country of Zeuten no longer has any need for heroes. Quests have been completed, the great Powers have withdrawn from the world, and the Sentinels who guard the last Relics are largely forgotten. Unlike their neighbours in the country of Aestin, whose Invokers wield the magic of the deities in exchange for glory and prestige, they leave the gods alone, and the gods extend the same courtesy to them. When Zeuten's last Sentinel disappears, Zelle, her granddaughter, intends to track her down. Instead she runs into an Aestinian stranger with no memories of his past, who claims to be looking for a long-lost Relic hidden in the mountains by the first Sentinels. To Zelle, the rumours of lost Relics are just stories told to trick gullible travellers, but the hordes of enemies on the stranger's tail suggest otherwise. Armed with nothing but her grandmother's sentient (and temperamental) magical staff, Zelle finds herself tasked with keeping them both alive. Between monstrous beasts, magical storms, and an enthusiastic but inept aspiring assassin and her dragon sidekick, Zelle has her work cut out if she wants to survive long enough to save her grandmother and prevent the destruction of a nation. Maybe Zeuten is in need of a few heroes after all…

The Lost Sentinel By Author Emma L. Adams – Book Review

The Lost Sentinel By Author Emma L. Adams is the first book in her, ‘Relics of Power’ series. For fans of epic fantasy adventures this promises to deliver everything a reader is looking for. It introduces a great cast of characters, to captivate the reading audience, and of which many will want to follow their progression throughout this entire series.

The main protagonist, Zelle, is an interesting, and well developed character that you can easily connect with. She is the granddaughter of the Last Sentinel, the guardian of the magical relics. These relics are infused with the essence of a god that can bestow on their owners magical power & abilities making them highly sought after, unless you believe the rumours that these are just myth.

Zelle, unlike her sister who is destined to follow in their grandmothers footsteps, seemingly possesses no magical ability of her own. Yet when her grandmother goes missing, it is Zelle rather than her sister who is drawn deeper into her grandmothers world after she runs into an Aestinian Stranger who has lost his memory and is searching for a particular relic.

The two work together to unravel the mystery of both her missing grandmother and his missing memory. They discover that a power hungry invoker is at the heart of all their troubles and is hell bent on destroying everything both hold dear. Zelle and the Aestinian Stranger must work together, with the help of an inept aspiring assassin, originally sent to kill the Aestinian stranger, but has a change of heart when she becomes the invokers next target.

This is an exciting, well written series with very little to distract the reader from the story. The plot moves at a good pace, bringing plenty of action, drama, tension, humour, mythical creatures, and fantastical elements, that fans of the genre will love. The characters are all completely relatable and easy to form an emotional connection with and the dialogue is relevant. I particularly loved the temperamental and sarcastic wit of the sentient magical staff that must work with Zelle to locate its Sentinal owner and wait…did I mention it has a Dragon in it!!

A page turner, and a definite series to add to your personal library collection. I award an easy 5 stars!
