The Letters of a Stranger by Cathy Hopkins tells us about Rebecca’s childhood growing up without her parents. Tragedy after tragedy follows her, and it seems many times that there is no respite ahead. Now a young lady, Rebecca follows the menacing letter’s instruction to leave her family for their own safety. Without knowing who the dangerous stranger is, she feels there is no other option than to go. The reader truly feels for her; the writing of her situation is so poignant. It is a book that shocked me and kept me reading because I wanted to find a sense of justice for Rebecca and her family.
I award 4.5 stars.
