“Immortal or not, life is short…”
After reviewing the breath-taking first book, the Immortals, I knew the author would not let me down in this, the second part of Cheryl S. Mackey’s epic fantasy story: Allies and Enemies.
Following narrator Rodney Peel’s brilliant adaptation of Immortals, he passes the baton to Delio Pera whose extraordinary task does not disappoint the listener in this tale of blood, betrayal, friendship, love, and misguided trust.
Just three weeks have passed, but the tide of war is never too far behind. And the lovable characters, Ivo, jaeger, Jadeth and Emaranthe continue their quest. To quote the author:
“Their gods betrayed them and turned them into warriors against their will. Now the immortals must do everything they can to stop a 15,000-year-old war.”
Bludgeoned by a sandstorm, often wrestling with the desire to give up, our characters must take shelter in a mysterious metallic structure that bakes below twin suns that trade places and watch the wind-marshalled sands circle like hungry buzzards; a haven some would call it, but to the weary, a cruel and unusual torture.
But they must keep moving, despite the pain, until their mission is complete.
As every great story in history has involved conflict; the constant struggle between love and hate, good and evil and man versus beast, victory is not too far beyond the reach of those brave enough to bite their lip and endure, to persevere when the odds seem to stack higher and higher against them. Here we learn that life is cruel and “Fate is not always a fair guided hand.”
Cheryl S. Mackey increases the violence in this second book. Together with action and relentless bloodshed, Immortals two: Allies and Enemies is a must for all fans of fantasy fiction.
I award this excellent story 4 stars. Fans of part one will not be disappointed.
