Fairies, friendships and fun: the perfect package for young children across the world.
Teyla Kai is a fairy with one big old wish: to be human. After all, when Rachel, the human who she lives near, seems to have so much fun, why wouldn’t she want to be? With magical poems and pennies, she gets her wish and goes on an adventure! The story is a wonderful way to show children that we should always celebrate ourselves and our uniqueness instead of wishing we were something different. Our fairy heroine is relatable and the friend that I’m sure many young ones will wish for!
With plenty of action packed into its pages, the book is well-paced for younger readers and will have them reading right to the end. Accompanied by beautiful illustrations, it makes for an excellent read. There are some editing issues that are slightly distracting, and, although poems don’t necessarily have to rhyme, having them do so would probably be more attractive for the target audience. As it was, the poems sounded a little clunky and it would have been nicer to have seen something more rhythmical that could have gotten stuck inside a child’s head.
A beautiful little foray into friendship and individuality, The Book Dragon reviewed this on behalf of the author and awards it 4 stars.
