Smashin Candy is the second book in the I Love Candy Series by Author Maddison Cole. Picking up where book one, Crushin Candy, left off, Candy is determined to reunite the fractured Monarchs and have her full cake and eat it!
As before the story moves at a good pace and in this second book the plot takes an interesting turn when Candy’s position as Queen of the Monarch’s is threatened with the arrival of another female, cue the green eyed monster in a character that is completely outrageous, has no filter and a devil may care attitude. However it seems that Candy has good reason to want to get rid of her competition, Cherry, as it would appear that Cherry is not who she seems and is more than just a threat to Candy’s relationship with her Monarchs. Cherry wants Candy out of the picture permanently, and our sassy, impulsive and obsessive heroine is more than happy to rise to the challenge, and use her claws to protect what is hers.
I enjoyed reading Smashin Candy, and consider it my guilty reading pleasure, but I have to say that I did not enjoy the story telling quite as much as the first book due to the significant increase of erotic content. Whilst some readers will not find this an issue, for me when I compare my experience with the first book I would have preferred a similar balance with the steamy scenes and enjoyed more of the Candy attitude scenes particularly her ‘bitch fights’ with Cherry.
As a minor note there were the odd editing issues, however these can be easily addressed by the Author and were not a huge distraction.
Overall I award Smashin Candy, 4 stars.
