Sir Lankylot, is the story of a loveable but clumsy knight that’s always getting into scrapes and his trusty steed Clip Clop Bill

Sir Lankylot & Clip Clop Bill By Author Christopher Hayward – Book Review

Told in rhyming verse, this fun children’s story has vibes of a traditional tale with several amusing twists along the way.

Sir Lankylot is a loveable hero who plunders his way through the mission aided by his more competent sidekick, and steed, Clip Clop Bill. Together they work side by side to attend to the aid of someone they hear crying for help in the distance. The tale will certainly make your little ones laugh and Sir Lankylot maintains a useless front throughout.

The use of rhyming verse is certainly appealing for younger readers although at times, the layout of the rhyme is confusing, or the syllable length of each line not quite consistent, meaning the rhythm is lost in places. On the whole though, it has been well-produced and the whole book has that lovely sing song feel you want from a story told in verse.

The illustrations are quite beautiful and bring the story to life, definitely helping little ones visualise the quest at hand. Although the author ends the book with a note about the missing punctuation, I’m not sure I buy into the idea; I personally feel that this is not a work book but a story to be enjoyed and as a model text, commas and full stops should be included for demonstration purposes. Perhaps if a companion book with punctuation in it was published alongside this one, it may work better?

The Book Dragon reviewed this tale on behalf of the author and awards it a deserving 4 stars. Fun and lively, definitely one to share at bedroom to guarantee your little ones will be going on their own adventures in their dreams!
