Sentinals Rising By Author Helen Garraway – Book Review

Sentinals Rising by Author Helen Garraway is the second book in the Saga of Remargaren and continues the story of Jerrol Haven, who having awakened the mysterious Sentinals from their three thousand year slumber, must learn more about them if he is to succeed in his mission to keep his King and country safe from further magical attacks. The King and Vespiri are under threat from the mysterious Ascendants who continue to scheme and cause chaos for the monarch as they turn their attention to a group of nomadic families. Jerrol must place his trust in his Sentinals and post them accordingly to keep watch and defend, whilst he is sent to deal with the distress call from the nomadic families and investigate further. More Sentinals are awakened along the way, and Jerrol’s confidence in his own abilities and destiny really comes through as the story moves forward.

I have really enjoyed reading the second instalment in this fantasy series and I’ve loved how each of the Sentinal’s characters have developed further in this telling, especially Birlerion. I’ve also enjoyed the way in which some of the relationships between the key characters have progressed; and also changed both positively and negatively, which offers more drama and tension. The individual scenes with the Darian (horses) are a wonderful addition to the story as the reader is given a deeper understand of the emotional bond that exists between rider and Darian. Horse lovers will truly resonate with these scenes. The story itself is well written, with nothing to distract the reader, and moves at a steady pace throughout to keep readers engaged.

This is a series that I highly rate and therefore I award 5 stars.
