Sentinals Across Time, the fourth instalment in the Sentinals series by Helen Garraway, takes readers on another thrilling journey, through time and introduces them to new dimensions of the beloved characters. As a fan of the series, I can confidently say that this book does not disappoint and is, without a doubt, my favourite so far.
The story picks up with Jerrol, who is finally enjoying some much-needed peace and happiness with his wife, Taelia, and their newborn child. However, their tranquility is abruptly disrupted when Jerrol is unexpectedly transported back in time by the enigmatic Lady Leyandrii and the Oath. Jerrol must navigate his new reality in past Birtolia while unravelling the purpose of his arrival and searching for a way to return to the present.
Helen continues to impress with her ability to deepen the connection between readers and the characters they have come to love. Each book in the series provides a fresh perspective and understanding of the protagonists, allowing readers to become even more invested in their journeys. Jerrol’s plight and his determination to reunite with his family tug at the heartstrings, adding a layer of emotional depth to the narrative.
The author’s writing is beautifully crafted, with descriptive prose that paints vivid images in the reader’s mind. Despite a few minor editing issues, the storytelling remains captivating and holds the reader’s attention from beginning to end. The pace of the story is steady, balancing moments of action and introspection, ensuring that readers are fully engaged throughout.
One of the highlights of Sentinels Across Time is the exploration of the connection between the two timelines. Helen skillfully intertwines the past and the present, creating moments where the two touch, leaving subtle clues for Jerrol’s loved ones to decipher. These scenes are both poignant and intriguing, as they serve as a testament to the enduring bonds of love and loyalty.
Moreover, the author excels in maintaining continuity within the series, ensuring that the characters’ relationships and personal growth remain heartfelt and believable. The development of these connections adds depth and richness to the narrative, making it all the more immersive for readers.
This is a highly recommended addition to the captivating fantasy series. With its well-written narrative, compelling characters, and seamless blending of timelines, this book is a testament to the author’s storytelling prowess. Whether you are a devoted fan of the series or new to the world of the Sentinals, this novel will undoubtedly leave you eagerly awaiting the next instalment. I award 5 stars.
