This is a gritty book with dark elements, scenes of violence and references to organised crime and descriptive steamy bedroom scenes intended for a mature audience. A quest for revenge. A broken heart. And a criminal underworld that threatens their lives. For years I’ve lived for revenge. It has possessed my every waking moment and haunted me in the dark. It is the only thing that has kept me alive – my only purpose. Until the night she walks into my life, throwing her drink all over me in my own nightclub. One look into her eyes and all I want is just one taste of her. But she’s too innocent for my world – for the monster that lives inside me and the darkness in my soul. If I don’t step away now, I’ll drag her down with me. The only problem? I’m not sure I can just let her go, even though it could cost both of us both our lives. Can two wrongs make a right? Can two broken hearts make a whole? Red for Revenge is Book One in the Northern Sins Saga; the steamy romance suspense series set in the north east of England. Although this forms part of a series and it is recommended to read them in order, this book is standalone with a HEA. If you like an age gap romance with twists and turns, strong characters and an exciting plot, this might just be what you are looking for.

Red for Revenge (The Northern Sins Saga Book 1) By Author Nik Terry – Book Review

Red for Revenge is the first book in this steamy romance series by Author Nik Terry. The story moves between the two main characters Ava and Eli who meet in Eli’s bar after Ava accidentally spills her drink on him. There is an instant attraction but nothing happens between the pair. Eli walks away after buying Ava a replacement drink.

It seems however that Fate clearly has other plans for the couple and their working lives end up colliding when Eli’s father insists that he take some interest in the family business and attend a meeting with Ava’s employer. Ava is instructed to hold the meeting in her boss’s absence when he goes off sick after a ‘heavy night’ and she is forced to cover in his absence. The couple are then required to work together but find it difficult to keep their relationship strictly professional especially when Eli unwittingly draws Ava into his dark and violent world as he seeks revenge on a man who was responsible for the death of his previous love. Will his obsession frighten Ava away?

I loved both the characters of Ava and Eli. They both have interesting backgrounds, and are well developed with a good balance of strengths and flaws that make them believable and relatable characters. Eli is your typical rebellious bad boy who you can’t help but love. Ava is a strong female lead who having experienced her own difficult childhood doesn’t scare easily and fights hard for the one’s she loves. What she lacks in stature she more than makes up for in personality.

The plot moves at a good pace, and carries plenty of drama, excitement, sizzling scenes and grit to keep readers entertained and turning the pages. There are no significant editorial issues to distract the reader or spoil their enjoyment of the story.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series. I award 4.5 stars.
