“Soon the family slept, warm, cosy and tight, oblivious to the old magic that seeped into the night”
“When the moon was full, magic would seep, arising through cracks while the world was asleep. Then she would awaken to weave magic again… and who knew what adventures she’d have with her friends!”
Old Christmas Magic written by Author Linda Jones is an enchanting story which will charm readers and envelop them in the Christmas spirit. The narrative flows easily with the author’s use of rhyme which helps guide the reader and immerse them in the story. As well as their use of charming language, the author creates charming characters who young readers will be enchanted by and will learn from as they work together to protect their home. The characters convey to the audience the excitement and joy of Christmas Eve as they anxiously wait for the morning. Charming and magical characters such as the Soldier, Sugar Mouse and Dragon are brought to life and work together to protect their home. However, my favourite has to be the Fairy as she brings out the true festive spirit and magic of the story and takes on the role of a guardian angel.
Along with the elegant language and enticing narrative, this festive story is accompanied by delightful illustrations by Carole Marsh which guide the reader and bring the authors’ characters to life.
