Barbara Woster’s ‘Love Through Time’ is a time-travelling story of mystery and intrigue. Savannah is a studious college student intent on finishing her degree with honours and has no time for the shenanigans imposed by her roommate and best friend Tyeshia. Tyeshia, a statuesque, black beauty, is more intent on having a good time and snaring for herself a rich husband.
“I intend to marry the smartest geek in this school and live high off the hog for the rest of my life,” she says. When Savannah decides she needs to consult her friend, Black Calf from the Blackfoot Tribe, to give her the final pieces of information she needs to complete her thesis, she entices Tyeshia along, hoping she will find something of interest to base her own History assignment on, which is due in just a few weeks. Tyeshia reluctantly agrees but lives to regret it when Black Calf tells her that she is being influenced by an evil Indian from the past, Many Feathers, the cruel and sadistic brother of the tribe’s chief, Mountain Chief. Hoping to avoid a massacre of an innocent Indian Tribe, and to regain control over her own life, Tyeshia is drawn back in time, along with Savannah, to somehow change the past and protect Tyeshia’s future.
Ms Woster has woven a well-thought out and from what I can tell, historically believable tale of life on the Western Frontier minus the actual time-travelling part, of course. The dialogue is lively but appears a little unauthentic. However, it does move the story along, as does the steady pace, which increases as needed to build tension. The characters themselves are believable if a little clichéd, and in a way, the story is predictable in that there is a happy ending, albeit probably not entirely what the reader may at first suspect. It will become obvious what the outcome will be as the story progresses. There are a few editing issues that can detract from the story but it is a good story overall and these can be easily addressed by the Author.
I award this book 4.5 stars.
