This third book in the Honu and Kiyaya series finds the friends enjoying a thoughtful scavenger hunt at day’s end. Children will enjoy playing “seek and find” with the book’s stunning images, and caregivers will find value in the thought-provoking “Rules for Life” that accompany each treasure. As with all of the books in the series, the story invites the reader to enjoy the fun story, vibrant illustrations, and to use the book’s message as a way to engage in thoughtful and meaningful conversations between child and caregiver.

Honu and Kiyaya Play a Game By Author Jennifer Cyr – Book Review

Honu and Kiyaya Play a Game is the 3rd book in the series and continues developing the friendship between the two main characters. They stay true to themselves and keep their compassion and creativeness intact. It’s interesting getting a feel for the world they live in, as we see their companions interact with them. Characters that had been mentioned in previous books are now depicted. As ever, the dialogue is beautiful, but simple– conveying the message of helping each other well. The plot follows the characters as they go on a scavenger hunt. The story is reflective and offers good life lessons through the game. I wish the lessons had been more closely tied with the elements the animals found, to really tie everything together. Otherwise, the story is a thought-provoking read that will invite kids to think more deeply and empathetically when they play.

I award this book 4.5 stars
