Sometimes we get so caught up in what isn’t going well in our own life that we forget about what other people may be going through. A smile can make all the difference in the world to someone who is only seeing frowns and hearing grumbles all day long. Whenever you can, send someone a smile. You may be the first thing they ever smile about and it could start something great!

Grumble D. Grumble Learns to Smile By Author Rebecca Benston – Book Review

A lovely heartwarming message is in the pages of this children’s book – perfect for sharing with your little one.

Told entirely through rhyme, the story brings to us the character Grumble D. Grumble, a particularly grumpy bear, and a protagonist that I think we can all identify with from time to time! Throughout the story she is consistent in her negative attitude towards everything making her believable and relatable. The rhythm is near perfect and easy to follow, and I quite enjoyed the quirky layout of the book in that each line of the poem was on its own page. As the story ends, I also liked additional concluding message the author includes just to hammer home the important meaning to this narrative.

Although the story is fantastic, the overall presentation of the book isn’t quite as attractive. The font is a little distracting and a simpler style would probably be better. Additionally, the illustrations aren’t as high-quality as I would like for a picture book.

The Book Dragon had the joy of reviewing this book on behalf of the author and believes the story itself will bring a smile to the faces of everyone who reads it. However, taking the presentation into account, we award it 3 stars
