Experience life on a small Yorkshire farm as Britain recovers from the Second World War in this semi-biographical rural mystery. Moving from town to country is more than a change of scenery for Mary, wife to hard working Tom and mother to three small children. As she struggles with her ever-increasing family, stark living conditions, poverty and loneliness, Mary is drawn to the company of the handsome and convivial Jack Netherfield. The neighbouring farmer flatters Mary and spoils her children, causing friction with the often absent Tom. As events plough even darker furrows, family secrets are overturned and relationships are changed forever.

Greener Beyond The Hill By Author Edna Hunneysett – Book Review

Greener Beyond the Hill is a well written novel centred on the characters of Mary & Tom Holmes and their family as they adjust to their new rural life and the challenges of working a Yorkshire farm. The story touches on life just after Britain recovers from the second world war, and the stark living conditions and poverty faced by the couple and their children. This is a truly heart warming and realistic account that takes the reader on a fascinating journey and appreciating how the years have changed the quality of living conditions and the many luxuries that we take advantage of today. The characters are well rounded and likeable, and very easy to build an emotional connection with. The dialogue is realistic and the narration itself detailing the families life, hardships and how they each embrace and overcome the adversities engages the reader from the very beginning. The plot moves at a good pace with very little editing issues that would distract the reader from the story.

This is a fabulous read and I award 5 stars.
