Grace & Bobo The Trip to the Future By Author P. J. Blakey-Novis – Book Review

This is an interesting read centered around Grace and her pet monkey Bobo.

When Grace’s teacher asks her to write about the future, she decides it’s the perfect opportunity to build her own time machine. Grace shows resourcefulness and creativeness, and we see her interactions with her dad and Bobo. There is a clear, loving family dynamic. The rhyming prose serves as a helpful tool to make the story flow. Sometimes the flow is a little off, but for the most part it worked. As we follow Grace and Bobo into the land of the future, interesting elements are introduced. The ending message is thoughtful. However, the middle and end of the story feel rushed and not as detailed as the beginning. Perhaps it’s to better drive home the open ending, but to me it felt like we missed out on character richness and interactions as a result. The material at the end is helpful and a great addition to the story.

I award 4.5 stars.
