“Daddy’s Orange Bracelet” is based on true events that happened to the author and his daughter. Garrison Wollam was diagnosed with leukemia on October 23rd, 2019. This book was designed for families going through a difficult time to help explain to children the struggles they are facing. Children learn coping skills as well as hope for their family’s future. The book starts with the diagnosis, uses the daughter’s voice to explain her experiences and feelings, and ends with a positive conclusion and family love that will give children the optimism they will be needing when living with a sick family member.

Daddy’s Orange Bracelet By Author Garrison Wollam – Book Review

An important and moving tale, Daddy’s Orange Bracelet tells us through a child’s eyes what it’s like to have a parent with cancer.

The concept for this book is unique and will undoubtedly bring comfort to anyone going through a similar situation. It describes, quite honestly, what is to be expected when a parent goes into hospital with leukaemia and is quite unlike any other book on the market. For that reason, it is a powerful piece of writing.

As the book is trying to capture the scenario as if a child were speaking, the writing itself ends up coming across as too simplistic and slightly repetitive in places. Careful editing to perhaps have less simple sentences and to also correct the punctuation mistakes would certainly make this book a much stronger read. The pictures themselves are clearly from the family album, which is a great privilege to be able to share, but the digitalisation of them isn’t as appealing to the eye as one would like.

A heartbreaking yet positive tale in the face of adversity, The Book Dragon reviewed this book on behalf of the author and awards it 3 stars
