Chronicle of the Damned: The Giric Stone By Author Deborah Barwick – Book Review

By Rebecca Wade

Cover Blurb:

Kelpies, Selkies and fabled monsters abound in Part Three of the long-awaited Raven Saga. A desperate telephone call draws Jake and Ethan Freer to the Scottish Highlands. The truth, however, is veiled in deception. Who can the brothers trust? As lines of integrity become blurred, as heartfelt vows are cindered within fires of betrayal and lust, victim and foe are cloaked in confusion and duplicity. The Freers fight against both an unseen enemy and their own human flaws, as an unnatural creature manipulates all from their midst. And even as a dreadful finale looms on the shores of Loch Morar, unseen eyes watch, and wait, from beyond the veil.

Chronicle of the Damned: The Giric Stone By Author Deborah Barwick – Book Review

Giric Stone starts off where the second book ends and immediately delves into new and exciting folklore and legend. Certain legends included I had heard of previously, but it was interesting to see how Debroah included them in the book. It was gripping from the start and was full of twists and turns in which I couldn’t predict were coming.

This book focuses more on brothers Jake and Ethan, who are on another mysterious quest full of suspense and intrigue.

Deborah continues with her writing that is rich, detailed, and easy to follow. The book follows the same strong pace as the first two and portrays the firm bond of the two brothers. Her dialogue is believable and interesting, and the stakes are raised in this book, which makes it gripping from the first page to the very last.

Although the book is not long in length, it is filled with an abundance of action and mystery, and it left me wanting more. I’m thoroughly invested in Jake and Ethan’s journey, and I am looking forward to seeing where Deborah takes it next.

I award 4.5 stars.
