The veil between worlds has kept us safe for untold eons. Magic and mundane. Fantasy and reality. Safe, separate, and secure. Now the veil is falling. Thalia's a bookworm... and a nobody. Except for her secret superpower. Hiding from her fears - and from taking any chances - her job as a bookshop assistant is her refuge. Even her best friend and her kind, almost-like-a-father boss don’t know the truth about her loneliness and lack of purpose. But her safe yet unfulfilling existence falls apart when her boss vanishes. A strange man breaks into her home, and a cult of bloodsuckers start hunting her down. Pulled into a world of witchcraft and mythological creatures, as her untapped gifts begin to emerge, it's time for Thalia to face her self-worth complex. She must dig deep, learn how to stand proud in her freakish individuality, and figure out how tounlock her supernatural gifts of telepathy and empathy if she's going to save herself - and stop the veil from falling. Readers who loved the ancient magics and legend of Moonheart, and fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will enjoy joining Thalia and her band of misfits as they come together to save the world.

Call of The Siren By Author Scarlett Evans – Book Review

Lone bookworm Thalia has a secret superpower, one that she doesn’t yet know she has. She is The One who can save the nation from the darker, dangerous world that has remained separate from our reality for generations.

Thrust suddenly into witchcraft and magic when her father-figure boss mysteriously disappears, and with best friend Maya at her side, Thalia must discover who she really is, and what she can do. She must unlock her superpowers to save herself – and the world at large.

Call of the Siren is a fantasy by Scarlett Evans with the potential to be a top mystical and magical adventure. The characters are vividly brought to life with great interactive dialogue as the story progresses, and we are willing on Thalia and her friends to conquer all. The author will need to edit the book to remove the distractions to the reader, and perhaps increase the pace during slower scenes – but these can easily be done. I’d also like to see less of what I feel is overuse of descriptors in seemingly every line. I award 3 stars.
