Breaking Lies By Author Karen Langtree – Book Review

Breaking Lies is the second book in the Dystopian Breaking Trilogy by Author Karen Langtree and continues the story of Si and Chastity, whose worlds collided and united the pair in a desire to bring about the downfall of the Rulers and end the plague that dominates their world.

At the end of the first book, Breaking Silence, the two protagonists had separated, with Chastity abandoning Si in order to find her brother Resolution and kill him. Si who is eventually reunited with his mother becomes a source of inspiration as the truth emerges and the citizens are encouraged to rise against the Rulers and put an end to the misery caused. Si’s thoughts constantly return to the girl he loves, and he cannot ignore his feelings when Chastity’s obsession with getting revenge backfires. Her brother, Resolution, more slippery than Teflon, manages to scheme his way back into the Ruler’s favour, by using Chastity as bait to lure an unsuspecting Si into the Citadel and put an end to the growing rebellion. Resolution’s climb back to power and glory doesn’t go to plan however, and a shocking truth is discovered along the way!

This is a well written and engaging continuation of the first book that moves the plot forward at a good pace. With plenty of twists and turns along the way, the reader remains gripped from the first page to the last. There are new secondary characters introduced that are all believable, and previous well liked and enjoyed characters are further developed and reintroduced, enabling readers to remain invested in their stories. In Breaking Lies we find out more about the Rulers and their true intentions for the world that they seek to dominate, and in this exciting instalment they come back with a vengeance… it would seem they are set to win too … Make sure you have the final instalment, Breaking Up, to hand as the dramatic conclusion will definitely have you scrambling to read the next book!

I award 5 stars.
