50 Poems to fall out of love with

Alone Together: Poems of Separation By Author H.M. Roberts – Book Review

I am becoming quite a fan of this poet, I must say, having read a few of her collections. I think I am more of a fan of their narrative poems than standalones, they have a majesty that this collection does not quite reach.

However.

Pathos can be hard to achieve without descending entirely into self-pity. It is hard to talk about heartbreak without sounding a little Hallmark. I don’t think Roberts hit those notes at all. Their work is elegant, not that raw, in their imagery. But it has something that everyone who has seen heartbreak will understand.

The Fairytale was a particularly good piece that fits the poet’s theme and tone:

I want the fairytale

The movie love

The impossible

dream

More than that

I want you to think

I’m worth that

I also enjoyed Drifting, The Candle and Our Story. I recommend and award 5 stars.
