Cover Blurb:

Sam Jenkins never thought about being a fish out of water during the years he spent solving crimes in New York. But things change, and after retiring to Tennessee, he gets that feeling. Jenkins becomes a cop again and is thrown headlong into a murder investigation and a steaming kettle of fish, down-home style. In true Jenkins style, Sam turns common police practice on its ear to insure an innocent man doesn’t fall prey to an imperfect system and the guilty party receives appropriate justice.

A New Prospect: A Sam Jenkins Mystery by Author Wayne Zurl – Book Review

The Book Dragon was provided with a copy of this book directly from the Author via the Voracious Readers website in exchange for an honest review.

For those who like reading a detective story with a realistic background, this is a good choice,

Our man Sam Jenkins has served in Vietnam and spent twenty years in the New York Police Department before retiring early to Prospect, Tennessee. After some time with little definite to engage him, he becomes Chief of Police in Prospect. Laconic, experienced, perceptive, confident and compassionate, he soon gains the loyalty of his new small staff. His first day includes a murder. The victim, Cecil Lovejoy, is a wealthy citizen and an unpleasant character.

It is soon clear that the powerful in the town want the murder looked at by the County to hide facts about the victim. Despite this, our detective continues to pursue his own

investigations. The question is what will he discover, how will he solve the mystery and deal with it in his own way and also retain his job.

A New Prospect is an interesting read about police procedure in a small town. I award 4 stars.
