Cover Blurb:

Twelve years ago, Francis Bailey was locked away and left to rot in Britain's most notorious prison: found guilty of the worst kind of crime - the murder of a young child. A crime that he did not commit. Finally released on appeal, he returns to his home town high in the Yorkshire Pennines to rebuild his life. Unable to land a job, stigmatized by society and branded a dangerous lunatic by a corrupt police force, he soon realizes that his only course of action is to prove his innocence to the world by solving the case that still haunts the small community. But the truth lies hidden behind a wall of silence, where the bent copper who sent him down is shielded by people at the very top. When it comes to justice, truth is irrelevant. Liam Brennan is a man haunted by his past. Living on the streets, he is a drunkard and a deadbeat. Dangerous people are searching for him. Former colleagues who want him dead. Because Liam knows too much about their dark and violent history. There is nothing they won't do to ensure their secrets remain hidden. Forever in fear that his whereabouts may one day be discovered, his life is one long mess of drunken brawls and petty crime. When Francis and Liam's paths cross, they form an unlikely bond and together set out on a tortured quest seeking truth and absolution. Either they must conquer their demons and prevail, or be crushed by the horrors they carry with them. But now another child is missing, snatched off the streets. Time is running out.

A Murmuration of Starlings By Author Mark Hobson – Book Review

A Murmuration of Starlings by Author Mark Hobson is a well written crime novel that tells the story of two strangers; one who is seeking revenge, the other who is seeking redemption. The two strangers are brought together by horrific circumstance, as they each struggle to build a new life for themselves, and escape their pasts. A friendship is formed as together they set out to discover the truth and free themselves of the demons that try to crush their souls (metaphorically speaking) as the past rears its ugly head and another child is kidnapped.

The story of the two men moves at a good pace, keeping the reader invested in the plot and turning the pages over. The writing is expressive with good character development that instantly has the reader forming an emotional connection and having empathy to the circumstances the two friends find themselves in. The events that occur cleverly taking the reader on a rollercoaster ride of outrage, horror and sympathy. The dialogue is credible, and the secondary characters are believable in their interactions with the protagonists. There were no significant editorial issues that would distract a reader and pull them out of the story. In fact the difficulty I had was finding a suitable place where I could put it down and then pick back up the following day. The story having me hooked from the very beginning.

I award 5 stars.
