A Chorus of Chaos by Christopher Joyce is a compilation of nineteen short horror stories. Each story was unique and utterly different from the last and therefore something for everyone to enjoy. “Film Noire” read like fast-paced, intense poetry. “The Farmer’s Wife” had a steady pace to it with a twist that came out of nowhere. “Hall of Mirrors” was a mini psychological thriller.
A lot of the stories are not for the faint of heart, which adds to the horror and grotesque. Some of the stories began with suspicion and intrigue that slowly built until the final few pages of the story, and some began with dread immediately. Whether the protagonist was a child or an adult, their place in the twisted terror of each story was believable and masterful. How they spoke and interacted with their fellow characters was well written, and the layout and editing of the book as a whole was meticulous and professional. It will definitely be worth having a re-read when it’s closer to Halloween.
