The Chronicle of the Well: Awakenings By Author Deborah Barwick – Book Review

The Chronicle of the Well is the first book in Deborah’s series. It follows Anna and her son, Jake, on their fresh start in a new town after the passing of Jake’s father. However, you are soon taken down different paths within the story, paths involving witchcraft and the supernatural. There was twists and turns throughout to keep you entertained and gripped on what was going to happen next. Deborah built a strong antagonist, one who in the beginning added confusion and mystery to the story whilst at the same time adding charm and intellect. Further on, however, Deborah shows just how grotesque and power-hungry they have become and quickly leaves no room for redemption. In comparison, the love, respect, and loyalty the main characters held for each other was lovely to read and a welcome respite when nerve-wracking events were taking place. The book flowed easily, and the final chapters were fast-paced, exciting and set you up ready for the next one.

I award 4 stars.
