Teddy and the Mighty Yolo is the tale of the youngest tugboat in the Mariner Harbor when powerful Hurricane Yolo strikes the area. The seaports within the Harbor are impacted by climate change, and one in particular is on the brink of collapse – Shirley. Until her friend the beautiful belted kingfisher, Molly, visits her, Shirley’s exposure to the damaging storms has gone unnoticed. A series of events unfold, bringing the Harbor’s fleet of tugboats together to join the mission to protect Shirley. The timely arrival of environment activist, GG Jarrow aboard the luxury yacht Princess Lily, is informed of the danger by Molly, who seizes a window of opportunity to involved her. Will it be enough to save Shirley’s Seaport in time?
This children’s book has very real and believable characters, sure to capture the imaginations of those who read it, be they young or old. The fast moving plot successfully holds the readers’ attention throughout, without going too fast. There are, alas, several areas the author needs to work on, with some confusing scenes that need clarification, and several errors peppering the prose – but this is easily rectified. I award 3.5 stars.
