Monty the Magnificat is a mystical feline with magical powers. After visiting boy, Timmy Paige, he helps the town bully, Billy McDevitt, face his demons while staying with Timmy. The encounter brings the two boys together to save the town’s century old shipyard, whose pirate past is plotted to be erased from history! The voodoo princess of a nearby town awakens ancestral pirate Captain Jack McDevitt, who appears at Billy’s home to lead the boys to an unexpected discovery. This completes his family legacy and brings the small town on the brink of disappearing firmly back onto the map.
With real and believable characters, who have good dialogue between them, this plot successfully holds the readers’ attention throughout the book. Monty truly is a Magnificat! There are a few areas the author needs to work on, with some scenes that are confusing and need clarification, and several errors peppering the prose – but this is easily rectified.
I award 3.5 stars.
