The old keeper laced his hands together. "They say every lighthouse keeper receives one last visitor to hear his story before he is done." The sailor laughed. "Oh, you think I am here to listen to your story?" The old keeper narrowed his eyes. "Yes." "Well, it seems I have to stay here for a while. It looks like a storm is on its way." He pointed out of the window to the grey-clouded sky. "So go on, tell it to me." "My story isn't mine," the old keeper said. "It isn't about me. "Not ahout you?" The sailor laughed again. *What is it about then? I hope it is not about another sea monster." The old keeper leant forward. No, not a sea monster. A sea master."

The Merchant By Author Sherif El Hotabiy – Book Review

Without given away any spoilers, imagine Robin Hood at Sea and you will have a good sense of what this book is about.

The story itself however is told by the main protagonist (an old lighthouse keeper) to a young sailor taking refuge from a storm. The old keeper welcomes the sailor into his lighthouse, and tells the sailor that he will be the keepers final visitor. The keeper believing the sailor to have been deliberately led to the lighthouse, so that he can hear his story for the very last time. Whilst waiting out the storm, the sailor settles back to listen to an incredible tale of a sea master, known as ‘The Merchant.’ Our Robin Hood Hero of the Sea!

The plot moves at a good place and carries plenty of action, romance, betrayal, mutiny and drama to keep readers entertained and turning the pages. The characters are all credible, and the dialogue relevant. There are no significant editorial issues that could distract a reader’s enjoyment of this tale.

I really enjoyed the old lightkeepers story and I award 4.5 stars.
