The Key of Ornoss, is a story that is both imaginative, thought provoking, and full of surprises. A truly great start to an exciting young adult fantasy series.
This is a well written, and in my humble opinion, well-edited book, that has a good balance of dialogue and descriptive content, allowing a reader to really connect to the protagonist, Cal, on an emotional level. There is drama, intrigue, twists and turns, a blossoming romance, danger, and a true voyage of self discovery.
My only slight critique, and it should be noted that this may also come down to personal preference, is the font size of the text, which I do feel some readers may struggle with. But this can easily be addressed by the Author, and perhaps A. J. can offer a print version with a larger font in the future?
As a writer, and avid reader, of fantasy fiction, when building worlds and choosing names, for example of characters, or cities, or realms, etc, a reader can be catapulted straight out of the story, because they cannot pronounce the names, or understand the terms used, and find themselves stumbling over the text. There have been many books where this has happened, and I have simply given up.
And this is another point, where I would commend the author and, The Key of Ornoss, as I found myself remaining fully grounded in the story, and reading on to its exciting conclusion. When this happens, and I am unable, or reluctant to put a book down, I know that I have a great book in my hands.
I am truly delighted that A. J. White has joined, The Book Dragon, family and I award, The Key of Ornoss a well deserved 5 stars.
