A book aimed at younger children, the message – how to help bees in distress – will also appeal to older readers as they learn about the natural world. Fantastic and colourful illustrations. The cute bee has appealing facial expressions that will be easily understood by younger non-readers. Grandma is caring, calm and cheerful, setting a great example on how to behave around insects and wildlife. The type is large and bold for early self-reading, and the book is a good size for kids to handle.
One small niggle; the rhyme doesn’t always scan well, but the theme and illustrations more than make up for this. I’d recommend this book for pre-school children having story time with a parent/guardian, and also for early self-readers.
I award, Grandma Saves a Bumble Bee, 4 stars.
