“The night was silent, deceptive and unassuming. Stooped on the banister of the narrow terrace, the figure strained his nostrils, splitting his newest scabs as he inhaled the purity of the heights.”
An ominous beginning, but one that immediately swept me away to the House of Darakai, Book two in the Haidren Legacy trilogy, from the explosive imagination of best-selling and award-winning fantasy author, K. L. Kolarich.
To call this genre Epic Fantasy is to discredit the author, in fact this work goes beyond fantasy. Granted it covers magic and growth, but there is war, horror and characterisation I have not read for some time. Fans of dark fiction will enjoy this book.
“Less than a monster, the creature reared its talons and scraped the underside of the taut hide. A gurgling rattled from behind its barbed teeth, where spittle foamed and drooled
over a hunk of shredded ligaments hanging off the bone.”
A much stronger, bloodier second part of the Haidren Legacy. I award this book 5 stars.
