Our Little Piece of Paradise is the second autobiography which picks up where the author’s first title, Another Day in Paradise, left off. In this memoir, Karen continues her story, as to how a young British couple built a new life, adapted to a different culture, overcame language barriers and finally became official citizens of the country they fell in love with. Like Karen’s first book this is a wonderfully written and heart warming account of the ups and downs that she, and her husband, Nick, faced as they settle into their new lives. Although the stories and anecdotes shared do jump around on subject matter, as Karen takes the reader back through time and the significant events that stood out for her, I did not find this particularly distracting as a reader. I really enjoyed reading the interspersed accounts of Karen’s animal rescue work and the fur babies who touched their hearts, in between all of the general day to day challenges of working in a foreign country which were interesting and thought provoking.
I award 4 stars.
