Picking up where the last book left off, we are reintroduced to Lawrie along with his new mate, Ruby, and their unique and loveable calves. With just as much action and adventure as the first story, you’ll be swept away by their epic quest.
This time Lawrie is on another mission: to find and rescue more of his own kind. Again the Voice of Wisdom is there to instruct and guide him across new lands and faraway places, and give him important messages that will help him on his way. Improving on its predecessor, the plot line of this book is much more of a page turner and the quirky hints left by the calves will have you asking questions as you move through the chapters.
Although the vocabulary remains as high-quality and challenging as before, it doesn’t feel as forced in this book and actually lends itself well to creating an image in the reader’s mind. We start to find ourselves lost in the description of the various creatures the tribe encounters, and the strange places they travel through. I was especially impressed by the way that the author portrayed the ‘savages’ and felt that she used clever references so that the reader knew exactly what they were all the while experiencing them through the eyes of the herd!
Once again, this book is a fantastic addition to the classroom as it comes complete with a glossary as well as various questions to extend learning beyond its pages.
The Book Dragon reviewed this book on behalf of the author and enjoyed getting lost in the unique and imaginative mind of the author. We award this book 4 stars.
