Yuki is about to become the heiress of the shinobi Yaomi clan. But will she be able to complete the challenge she has been set and is everything as it seems?

Warrior of Ice: Ice-blade Princess By Author Rae Wallace – Book Review

Yuki, or Kohanu as is her given name, comes of age at 16. With one challenge to overcome before she is entitled to become heiress of the shinobi Yaomi clan, her life changes in more ways than she ever thought. Everything she believed is untrue, and she finds her elder brother, Haito, has been waiting to rescue her from Yaomi’s evil world. The reverse of her final challenge is necessary – as she failed, her
life is in danger. Those around her also are in peril, but are unswayed by any thoughts of personal suffering in order to help her defeat the man who ruined her life and raised her as his own
under the guise of being the hero. Well developed and believable characterisation and realistic dialogue between the different characters.

As a reader, I felt for all of the characters whom Yuki encounters, and of course the girl herself, but I especially liked Karin. It’s an amazing thought that she is a mystical Okami creature who chooses to ‘remain human’ in order to protect Yuki, whom she has been tasked with looking after from a young age. The Okami, who can transform between animal and human form at will, is a legend that not every human believes in. These creatures are what makes the book extra special. I loved how the author introduces them slowly to us, and we realise that a lot of the animals encountered as the story progresses are of this supernatural clan. I want to know more about them!

The Scenes are well written and obviously there has been a lot of research to correctly portray the story’s plotline. The plot flows nicely all through the story. There are some minor errors but they don’t overall distract the reader from the flow of the book. A thrilling and enjoyable read, although confusing at times because of the differing language – but there is a Glossary included in the book to aid the reader’s understanding. I award 5 stars.
