Evelyn Weaver is a Later Life Diva is the third book in K. L. Crear’s Teapots & Tequila Shots series, and it’s a warm, witty story about refusing to let age dim your spark.
In her late sixties and single, Evelyn has settled into a routine of bridge club, supermarket shopping and living vicariously through her soap operas. Her life has become comfortable but beige, and she can’t help wondering whether this is really all there is. What follows is her decision to shake things up, swapping cosy cardigans for couture and stepping out into a world of dating mishaps, drama and unexpected new friendships.
This is a well-written tale about real women and the challenges we face at different milestones in our lives. It strikes a lovely balance between humour and heart, and readers of a similar age will recognise themselves in many of its scenes. There’s something very reassuring about a story that celebrates the idea that life’s best chapters may still be ahead.
I loved Evelyn, and it’s her transformation that sits at the centre of the story, but for me the real star is her zany sister, Dora. Their relationship is a joy to read. Dora coaxes Evelyn out of her shell, nudges her away from the monotony of her routine and refuses to let age hold either of them back. She’s a beautifully developed character, someone readers will relate to and laugh along with, and at times she quite simply steals the show. Her influence runs through so many of the changes and experiences Evelyn goes through, and that sisterly bond is one readers will thoroughly enjoy.
Evelyn Weaver is a Later Life Diva is an easy, uplifting comfort read, full of warmth and good humour. A perfect choice for anyone in need of a smile and a reminder that it’s never too late to rediscover your sparkle.
