Author Barbara Woster
Barbara Woster is a writer, but had it not been for a tragedy, her dad, and Clive Cussler, her life may have take a different path. When she was 14, a friend of hers decided to make her life a bit more interesting than it already was, to that point anyway. He accomplished this by shattering her knee. Quite accidentally and with no malice intended, but damaging, nonetheless. Until that day, she’d been a competitive runner and that incident put an end to ever doing it again. Her knee was shattered, and so-she thought-were her dreams.

Author Janet Gilson
I live in Malta with my husband, and I am both a mother and grandmother. Originally from the UK, I moved to Malta when I met and married my Maltese husband over thirty years ago. I studied psychology and obtained a certificate in counselling, intrigued by how the human mind works and how people recover from trauma. After taking early retirement, I now use my time doing something I love writing. I hope that by sharing my life experiences, that I might help others who have passed through similar experiences. When I’m not writing, you will find me spending time with my family, the most important thing in my life. I also love to travel, believing that this is an education in itself. I support several charities and want to make a difference, wherever I can. I am the author of two books to date – Behind the Smile and Letters to Ian, both of which can be found at The Book Dragon.

Author Kirsty F. McKay
Kirsty is a mother of three wonderful children, and a grandmother to two amazing grandchildren. She is happily married to her soulmate Niall, who is her biggest fan and supporter. Kirsty has led a very interesting life, adapted to various careers as she raised her children. She has been writing for many years but it was only when fate stepped in and introduced her to another fantasy writer, and their writing group, that she had the support and focus she needed to finish a novel. In 2019 she self published her novel, ‘The Veils of Valoria,’ the inspiration for the story coming from a repetitive dream, and her own experience working with Spirit. Kirsty is a Reiki Practitioner and a Crystal Therapist. She is also qualified in many other therapies from Aromatherapy Massage to Reflexology. However following her diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis, Kirsty no longer practices physical therapies and each day is a challenge for her as she manages her ‘spoons’. Thankfully her daughter Bronwyn, and her husband Niall, support Kirsty on a daily basis with the many challenges that Fibromyalgia brings. With the support of her immediate family, and especially her father and hero, Keith, Kirsty took a leap of faith and followed her intuition, after becoming frustrated with the lack of support for self published and indie authors. In July 2022 the Book Dragon was born. Kirsty is so passionate about The Book Dragon and working diligently to support her fellow authors that she does tend to forget she is a writer herself! Kirsty is currently editing her 2nd book, The Guardians of Valoria, which she aims to publish in 2023 with the support of her beloved Dragons.

Author Phoebe Wilby
I was born in Australia and, although Australia still has a huge piece of my heart, I regard myself as a citizen of the world. I’m currently living in Ireland with my husband. My youngest daughter is also here on an extended holiday. My four older children have now flown the nest and it’s a new stage in my life. Aside from writing and working full-time, we are also renovating a quaint farmhouse in Ireland which is now almost habitable. When I say ‘we’, I really mean my husband is renovating! I have been writing since childhood, including horror stories, humour, and poetry, usually about life as I saw it then. My life is still the inspiration for my writing. I have a background in journalism, but only studied for the degree to ‘legitimise’ my writing, and while studying for my Bachelor of Journalism, I was blessed to win the Literary Achievement Award for Excellence in Fiction from the Golden Key International Honour Society, of which I’m a lifetime member for my fictionalised treatment of the September 11, 2001 tragedy in New York. A bit of very creative journalism, there. You can read this here. I’m beginning to make time for my writing now, and it is refreshing to be able to do this. My life gets a bit chaotic at times. yet I wouldn’t have it any other way. Still, this semi-chaotic lifestyle is perfect for short-story writing – not so good for novels, though. I am trying to persevere with a few longer works I have in the pipeline, as well as a couple of anthologies. Sometimes I really don’t think I have the attention span to write a novel. However, I have so many projects on the go that the characters are beginning to take over my life completely.

Author Shakalin Silver
Shakalin Silver is a writer -born at an early age: the product of a Christian marriage between two human parents and is only just a ‘child of the sixties.’
Shakalin (or Sha) is a compulsive writer who is currently working on a series of fantasy fiction books. There’s one older sister who’s marginally nicer to talk to than Sha is, though like the rest of her extremely dysfunctional family, they don’t talk to each other. Perhaps one day, with a bit of luck, they’ll communicate without arguing again – with the help of a Oujja board!
During her formative years, Miss Silver soon developed the social skills of Attila the Hun and the compassionate and caring qualities of Vlad the Impaler. These were coupled with an unhealthy disrespect for the rest of her species, along with an almost laughable disregard for that great classical Greek joke “Democratic Civilisation”! By her twenties Shakalin had been diagnosed as an acute sufferer of the extremely painful condition, “Venomous Cynicism”!
Though only painful to others “Venomous Cynicism” is a difficult condition to live with and it has exacerbated Shakalin’s complicated lifestyle to the point where she has had to channel this condition into a career as a writer.
Miss Silver has since created a wonderful little world discovered in her debut novel ‘The Unusual Suspects,’ populated with animal characters that others can identify with and laugh at as they set out on epic, and ridiculous quests!
Shakalin loves nothing more than making people smile. She finds her greatest inspiration when exploring the wilds of Devon, or entertaining others around her campfire, accompanied by her feline pal, Hengist.

Mrs R, possesses and Elle Woods blend of legal prowess and waggish charm, and her newfound need to be an advocate for others will inspire young readers to look beyond their comfort zone.’ Amy is already working on the second book in the Mrs R series. Author Carol Kerry-Green
I grew up in Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. All my life I have enjoyed reading science fiction and fantasy books. I began writing when I was a teenager and sent many a short story to magazines in the 70s and 80s, not surprisingly they were rejected. After a hiatus of nearly 20 years I returned to writing and the changing publishing scene. Now I write urban fantasy and paranormal romance. I am the author of three novels at the moment and working on number four. My current WIP is book 2 of my The Coterie series. It’s set in a fictional stately home in Leconfield, East Yorkshire,
I have one more book in my urban fantasy series, The Donati to write at the beginning of 2024, then I aim to turn my attention to a six book Paranormal Romance series set in the city of York where I lived for a few years.
I have worked for the Inland Revenue and the local authority in the Housing department. After taking redundancy twelve years ago, I set up my own business as a Professional Genealogist. Lately I have been moving over to more writing and less genealogy, thought that will always be a part of my life.

Author Trevor Cowan
Following university and several years travelling, Trevor’s twenty-five-year career in engineering and project management took him across the globe, working for a number of years in Hong Kong, Mexico and Brazil, before returning to the UK. However, like most on a spiritual path, Trevor knew there was something more he needed to be doing, especially as his health began to suffer. Digestive problems, coupled with acute tinnitus, eventually forced Trevor to leave work and seek his own healing path, as the mainstream healthcare offered was ineffective for him. For twenty years Trevor has been working consciously on himself, beginning with yoga and meditation, followed by forays into various other esoteric areas and practices, before coming to shamanism and nature-based spirituality. This, Trevor knew, was his calling, and led to him completing a two-year training course on the medicine wheel and qualifying as a contemporary shamanic practitioner. Throughout this journey, Trevor filled many journals and knew he should share some of the profound insights he was privileged to have been given. From these writings, his book, Change Your Life! was born. Trevor is now based in the lovely town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, in North East England, where he works with individuals and groups offering ceremonies and workshops, alongside private sessions for spiritual connection, personal development, healing and growth.

“I wrote my memoir over the course of approximately 6 months. When I was finished my original draft was 680 pages! Whoa too long! Then I sat on my manuscript for almost 20 years. During that period, I had the manuscript professionally edited through 4 separate editors (various reasons mostly fear.) When the pandemic hit, I finally had the time (and courage!) to focus on my memoir. I found a wonderful editor that I now consider priceless to me. My favourite line of advice was, ‘If a portion of the book, or even a sentence, isn’t moving the story forward, then that probably can be edited out.’ I published my memoir at 375 pages and it has had 400+ reviews with a 4.6 out of 5 star rating on Amazon / Goodreads. Author Christine Asbrey
Chris Asbrey was born in the Far East, one of four children to working class parents. As she’s Scottish it was a portent for a life lived like a gypsy. She has lived and worked all over the world in the Police Service, Civil Service, and private industry, working for the safety and security of the public. Always a voracious reader, she easily finished three books a week for years. Mysteries were a real love and she consumed the works of writers old and new. The one thing she always wanted to do was to write but never had the confidence or time to do more than dream about it. She first became interested in the female pioneers in law enforcement when she joined the police herself. History has always held a draw for her and the colourful stories of the older officers piqued her interest, making her look even further back. A life-changing injury meant a change of course into contract law and consumer protection for a department attached to the Home Office. Her newly-gained disability was a struggle through numerous surgeries, and was an eye-opener in how the world sees disabled people. This led to her volunteering to help other disabled people navigate the complex paperwork and systems required to help them get the support they deserve. That same injury also grounded her long enough to start writing down some of the ideas that had floated in her head for years, but that same delay had enabled her to thoroughly research her subject matter, period, and methodologies used by law enforcement in the nineteenth century. Early forensics, and scientific breakthroughs in crime detection, have always been of particular interest, along with the spying techniques and gadgets of the time. Historic weaknesses and blind spots in the society and court systems make for an authentic backdrop to her work. Chris has produced magazine and newspaper articles based on consumer law and wrote guides for the Consumer Direct Website. She was Media Trained, by The Rank
Organization, and acted as a consultant to the BBC’s One Show and Watchdog. She has also been interviewed on BBC radio answering questions on consumer law to the public. When she’s not writing, she loves to spend time in her garden, and lives in York with her husband, Malcolm the dog, and two daft cats.

Author Christine Skippins
Christine (Chris) Skippins helda long career in finance before focusing on her writing and illustration, and it didn’t take long for her to recognize her niche once that happened. After signing up at a local animal rescue centre in an effort to get involved in a local charity, Chris discovered the inspiration for her series, The Magic of Misty Nook. As a teenager, Chris worked in a pet shop, where she frequently tried to adopt, often against her father’s wishes, the rabbits, guinea pigs, and even puppies that needed homes. Her father eventually gave in and allowed Whiskey the Collie to arrive in her home. Over the years, Whiskey and numerous other pets shared their lives with Chris, but her transformative experience came while helping at an animal sanctuary. Chris found renewed admiration for the animals and the team that rehabilitated him. In that moment, The Magic of Misty Nook was born. Today, she brings wonderful animal characters to life by telling how scared and lonely souls find love and kindness at Misty Nook. A native of Chichester, England, Chris is Mum to a grown son and daughter. She is Nanny to her four-year-old grandson, Harry, Ivy the Labrador, and Rolo the cocker spaniel. A naturally active and creative person, Chris loves her morning walks with her own dog Rizzo and often finds that her stories form in her head whilst she is walking. Losing herself in a good book in her garden on the beautiful Sussex coast with a glass of wine is one of her favourite ways to unwind.

Twenty years and fourteen novels later, I now consider myself a writer and hope to continue being so for many years yet. My body may be showing signs of age, but my imagination, thirst for discovering new things and attitude to life are still as fresh as ever.

Jackie Watson, daughter, mother and wife. b. South Shields, 1956. Partially educated 1961 – 1972. Jackie has always written, experimenting with short forays into rhymes and poetry in her childhood, through to short stories as a teenager. As a form of therapy, to help combat depression within a toxic relationship, she used poetry and writing to record and acknowledge her thoughts about life in the 80’s. Often autobiographical short stories helped her figure out what she wanted in life. Writing as a therapy and support from a tutor helped raise her aspirations, resulting in a Bed. Hons in 1991.
Juggling, education, work, children and a new relationship provided a richness of experience that empowered her to challenge old expectations. Her passion for equal opportunities resulted in running youth groups to encourage girls identify and challenge accepted behaviours of boys and men, supporting women struggling with domestic violence, and
working across the community, promoting positive experiences to empower other women.
Jackie has always wanted more from life and work. So, you might think that her first book would be a self-help book or a serious look at inequality for women or other ‘minority’n groups. That was her life’s work, and she has the T-shirt to prove it. But no, she has followed her first love for fiction. She believes that this approach, allows the reader to take from the story what they will.
The outcome of three years of writing ‘Herstory’ about a generation of young women from the North East of England. But could be any working-class community in the 1960’s/70’s.
She recognised that the growing aspirations of that generation did not impact on the reality of women and girls in the North East of England. Whatever young women’s perception of equality and freedom was in the 70’s life opportunities were limited by the societal norms around them. The role of northern men, their deep-rooted attitudes towards traditional
gender roles meant girls aspirations, if any, were crushed. An expectation to conform to old long-established roles meant young women were sandwiched between the men holding, manually demanding, jobs, within heavy industry and a long-established expectation of the ‘good housewife’ supporting role. This meant breaking the mould was difficult, if not impossible for some.
The love story of Georgie, a fifteen-year old girl, illustrates some of these restrictions. Implicit within the lives of the characters she talks about. The naivety of the young, and inhibitions of the time, are torn apart by an incident that leaves everyone questioning their actions and providing the catalyst for change.
Maybe Jackie’s next book will be an academic look at Feminism for working class women in the 70’s or the prequel to Georgie’s. Her mother’s story, beginning in 1936 or Catherine’s story set in 1981. Both are being written.

I’ve done a range of things over the years from teaching to publishing and most recently charity work and chaplaincy. For the last six years I’ve been fortunate enough to work part-time which has helped me find time to write. Not that I had any intention of that at first, being an author was never part of my life plan. That all changed one sunny spring morning when I finished reading a fairly mediocre book and couldn’t find another I wanted. Well, why not try and write something, said the small voice in my head. I sat down with a notepad and pencil and just like that, words started hitting the page. Three notebooks later they were still coming, who knows from where, and I realised I had enough material for a book. At that point, by happy coincidence or maybe by fate, into my life walked award winning writer, author and editor, Tracey Iceton. We became friends and it’s my great good fortune that she agreed to edit my rambling prose into a coherent narrative. Two years and two books later and I’m now at the stage where I’m happy to call myself an author. Book three of my trilogy is underway and with a fair wind will hit the book shelves of the Book Dragon in 2023.

Author C. J. Laurence
I’d love to say that writing has always been in my blood and I owe my strange imagination to a relative I barely knew, but as far as I know, I’m a one of a kind from my family (in more ways than one!!)
So what do I love to write about? Well, whatever takes my fancy to be quite honest. I’m not one to write for the market – I write for myself, what comes from the voices, sorry – muses, in my head, and what I think are unique twists in this repetitive world.
As a result, you can find me scattered across genres from steamy romance to dark fantasy and horror. My only hesitance at the moment is sci-fi but I’m sure I’ll tackle it some day!
Conspiracy theories, the supernatural, and the darker side of human nature fascinate me. I adore mythology and ancient history too, and also (only when I’m feeling intellectual) tend to dip my toes into quantum physics to better understand theories of the supposed impossible.
I am a thirty-something mother to a 15 year old boy and 3 cats.

Author Carolyn Parker
Carolyn, aka The Overcoming Queen, has always felt she had some kind of a message to speak, yet wasn’t sure what this was. In an attempt to follow her gut instinct around this she was licensed as a lay reader in the Church of England, sadly needing to retire within the first year due the increasing needs of her autistic daughter.
Reading had always been a favourite pastime from a young age for her, when escape into a fictional world for a few hours helped this lonely, adopted girl feel less alone.
Carolyn has been a “people person” throughout her life, having worked in the NHS as a physiotherapist from 1980, before starting a family and later setting up a Leicestershire care and companionship business in 2011 where she currently supports families affected by dementia.
Covid 19 saw being accepted onto an Arts Council England funded collaborative writing project. Her chapter explored an abusive relationship which brought healing to herself and awareness and hope to her readers.
This experience ignited an intense inner passion, she now saw writing as the way to share her message of awareness, understanding and compassion.
Carolyn believes that her life’s mission is to write about the trials and taboos she has faced, with raw honesty and vulnerability to reach women
worldwide with the message
“Whoever and wherever you are, you are not alone in your pain, it really is possible to overcome whatever is thrown at you.”
As well as talking about her struggles, she shares the self improvement tools and strategies that have transformed her life, taking her from being a victim, lacking self esteem and needing constant validation to the strong independent woman who knows, loves and believes in herself that she is today.
From A Place Called Shame, Carolyn’s first memoir, published in November 2023, explores the emotional rollercoaster that describes her teens and twenties. It has attracted global 5 star reviews for the empathetic portrayal of one naïve girl’s struggle to navigate unmentionable situations within a society steeped in stigma, in the late seventies and early eighties.
Carolyn has contributed to several heart inspired story collections including Beautifully Broken (Welford Publishing) and The Secrets of 99 Successful Women (The Book Chief) and is looking to publish further autobiographical materials in the form of memoirs and contemporary poetry. She is keen to support others to tell their story through an author support mentoring programme Write It Out and is creating a Paint It Out trauma recovery
workshop to facilitate healing by literally throwing emotions onto canvas.
Carolyn’s underpinning desire in all she does is to empower women to face and overcome their inner struggles, thereby stepping into a hopeful future
with confidence.

Authors Ceri Williams and Drew Neary
Neary-Williams is the co writing team of Andrew Neary and Ceri Williams, based in the Midlands of the UK. This is the first time we are co-writing and we are really excited about how dynamic our partnership is .It was evident from our initial meetings and the snowballing of ideas that evolved, that we absolutely had to write this novel.
The Clockmaker originated as a character in the much larger prequel novel – Optics. When we put some extracts on our Facebook page we received acclaim and requests to develop the minor characters further. That was when The Clockmaker was born.
Drew became interested in history, science fiction/fantasy and conspiracy theories in his teenage years. This prompted him to write short stories over the years. He is also a fan of tabletop gaming.
Ceri has always loved language, and after a 5 year stint in advertising and journalism, now writes supernatural horror and fantasy.
As the first in an upcoming series of supernatural books, the Clockmaker is the story of Annette and her young son Duncan. Widowed in World War 2, they face a completely different life as they exchange the devastation of post-blitz London for the slow pace of a small village in Scotland. The house they have inherited is old, its bones still settling, creaking noises in the dead of night and the murmur of scritch-scritch in the walls. Located outside the village of Lochnagar, it’s been empty for many years. It is here in this village that a series of strange events begins to unfold.
How the Clockmaker makes his plans, his meticulous preparations and macabre creations, builds up to a series of gruesome, horrific murders. These have just one end in view: his release from that which has held him captive for centuries. When planning the writing of this novel, we wanted the setting to be somewhere special. We visit Scotland a lot and chose the Balmoral area for it’s beautiful geography that would lend itself to the dramatic scenes we had planned. We see Scotland as a land steeped with myth and mystery that dates back to the time of the Romans and beyond. We loved the feel of ancient power resting in the Dolmans, waiting to be released.
The third member of our team is a visual artist based in the Netherlands. Priscila Rodriguez Aranda worked closely with us to create a cover that reflected both the content and the genres of the book.

Author Chandon Siman
My writing journey started a little over two years ago during the height of the pandemic. I started writing as a hobby during quarantine. After starting several works that I was not pleased with, I finally settled on the idea for Atlas and the Multiverse. I decided that I wanted to write a book that I would have wanted to read as a kid. Therefore, I looked to my children, and the books and movies I grew up on for inspiration. After completing the first draft of my manuscript I needed to make the important decision about whether I wanted to do traditional publishing or self-publishing. For me, it wasn’t a hard decision. I did not want to go through the process of querying literary agents. I had also heard of a lot of authors finding success in self-publishing. My first challenge as a self-published author was finding the right resources and services needed to publish my book. I finally settled on using a company called 1106 design to help with all my publishing needs. Ultimately, I was very happy with all their services – but it was quite expensive. More expensive than I would like to share. Therefore, for my second book, I am seeking more cost efficient services. I have already found a cover designer, who created my cover for free, in exchange for promoting his services. I have also purchased programs and learned how to do my own interior design. Which means, the only thing I need to pay for now is an editor and proof-reader for book two of the Atlas and the Multiverse series. My first draft is nearly complete, and I am beginning to shop for editors. As I mention before, I would really like to find an editor who is willing to read book one of the series first, as I think it will be critical to understanding the characters and the story. I expect my book to be complete by the end of July. I will then spend about two months revising and editing it on my own and with the help of my alpha readers. After that, I would like to get my book professionally edited beginning in October to be completed no later than the end of November. From there, I would spend the next few months in the proof- reading process with the expected release date of February 21, 2023, which is one year from the publication of my first book.

Author Don Harrison
“I’ve been writing stories all my life but never had time to finish them until I retired. I worked in the chemical industry in Northeast England and elsewhere until I eventually retired from full time work in 2018. I still do a little consultancy but I far prefer being a man of leisure. I’m an amateur musician, playing drums in a pub-rock band and keyboards and Saxophone with other bands. I got my professional qualifications as an adult with the Open University and Loughborough University and I’m a chartered member of the UK Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.” In 2021 I eventually decided to cobble together all the ideas from jotting down stories into a novel. This was self-published on Amazon in June 2021 as “Harry’s Lattice.” That was fun so I wrote a second novel in the series with the same characters which was published in October 2021 as “Symmetry Violations”. The concluding part is “Entanglements” as is currently in preparation. By self-published I mean without no outside assistance at all. I edited them (with help from my wife), found the cover illustrations (Harry’s Lattice has an original drawing by my grand daughter). I’ve dabbled with Amazon advertising and sold just under 150 copies in the UK and USA. I’ve also acquired a respectable number of rejection letters from traditional publishers and a similar number of enthusiastic acceptances by vanity publishers seeking large investments from me with only vague guesses as to returns. My reason for writing is my own amusement. I do not need to sell books as a profit-stream. My motivation is to have them read, not to make a fortune from them. I have a small number of very positive reviews and ratings averaging 4.6 out of 5 overall. So I was delighted to see the Book Dragon business model, which seems to be exactly what I’m looking for –getting my stories in front of people without committing thousands of pounds with little hope of ever breaking even.

My father died 2 weeks before our last (and 8th) child was born. I wanted to tell her about him. I began writing my story from when I was born and from the age of 2, brought up with 6 siblings in poverty on an isolated farm on the North Yorks moors with no mod cons i.e. we finally got a tractor when I was aged 10 and that was our transport, even to church in the village, parked on the village green. I tried many publishers but it wasn’t published. Our youngest daughter became seriously ill at 13 and was suicidal. She had 2 relapses. I was doing my BA distance learning. I continued and did a Masters as I wanted to do my research on support for families where there is mental illness including church support. I was given a distinction and the hope, they said, that it would be published in some form. I wrote my true story of 6 years of our life and the devastating effect on our family during the period of our daughter’s teenage years and included my research. This book, was published, the first of 3 books re mental health. I continued studying under an Anglican Bishop for a PhD but I didn’t get it but I had my research published. Then my publisher ceased. I found Chipmunka and changed the titles of those 2 books to the current titles. I ran support groups and my 3rd book constitutes over 25 contributors of their stories/prayers/poems etc. NB Our daughter recovered and gained a 2.1 at Durham University and is now an Assistant Head at a large primary school and is happily married and has 5 children. Whilst my daughter was recovering, we revamped the farming book, adding fiction. I tried more publishers but again, it wasn’t published. After many more years, I went back to my very first book and changed parts and finally it was published, my first ‘Greener’ book:
semi-autobiographical. It takes me to 11 years old when I passed my 11+ exams. My 2nd ‘Greener’ book is 6 years of boarding school at a Convent Grammar boarding school plus home life and the contrast and struggles. My 3rd ‘Greener’ book takes me out into the big wide world with boyfriends, motor bikes and dances and eventually meeting Mr Right and getting married at 20 and the birth of our first 3 children… We have been married for 61 years.

Author Eleanor Dixon
Eleanor Dixon’s school life was spent in a girl’s boarding-school specialising in classical ballet and on leaving she danced professionally touring Europe, or four years. After that she ran her own ballet school in Athens, Greece and simultaneously volunteered as a veterinary nurse, as her love of animals is the driving force in her life. Eleanor returned to England with her horse and cat, and now lives on a smallholding in Shropshire with her husband, various farm animals and a constant stream of pets.
Eleanor started writing while in Greece, and completed a Creative Writing Course with the Writer’s Bureau. The same year, she won an annual competition in the Writing Magazine for an adult fairy story. On her return to England, she wrote two children’s books, but her new life, caring for Highland cattle, sheep, hens and pets, coupled with extensive global travel, meant that writing for publication took a back seat. She continued her love of writing with a daily journal and amusing travel blogs of each trip.
Eleanor is now writing full time and Tally and the Angel, Book One India, is the first of a planned series of six. Book Two takes place in Canada, North Yukin, and the third in Japan. Eleanor intends them to have adventures in Greece, Egypt, Peru, Africa – anywhere she has been really.
Eleanor’s first published novel, The Graceful Ghost, draws on her own experiences in ballet-boarding-school and her early teenage life, and is a story that has lived with her for many years. It was shortlisted for the UK Selfies Awards 2021, and a finalist in the Wishing Shelf Awards 2021. Ballet School Boys is the second in the series and Ballet School Rumours the third.
A little known fact about Eleanor is that her favourite food is Birthday Cake.

I started out writing poetry when I was 16, and studied Playwriting and Poetry at University, alongside English Literature and History. I dropped the Playwriting, as I didn’t feel it was my talent, but have continued to write academically, mostly history articles ever since. I qualified as a Lecturer when I graduated from University and started working within Education.
I emigrated to Germany 6 years ago and since then have been teaching English freelance, primarily to Chinese schools, and translating German-English.
I published my debut collection, Of Swans and Stars, in July 2022 and Love Lost and Found followed in November 2022. I have 3 more collections planned for next year and am currently finishing my debut novel, The Sunset Sovereign, which is shaping up to be a sci-fi/fantasy, light dystopian Dragon novel.
I have a fair few poetry collections published, although only Of Swans and Stars and Love Lost and Found are with you. I also have, PTSD is a 4 Letter Word, Acrostic, Cinquains and Haiku.
In June I will be publishing a poetry collection called Masquerade Me, and in October it will be my first horror poetry collection called Death by Sugar.
The Sunset Sovereign is indeed finished and on pre-order. I also have a short dystopian prison scifi called The Guard of Woestynn.

Author Jane Clack
I’m a retired teacher living in Yorkshire and I love to spend my free time writing. I’ve experimented with all kinds of genres, but my true passion lies in creating children’s books. I’m a mum and a grandma and I have contributed towards the education of hundreds, perhaps thousands of children. Incredibly, I have managed to live to tell the tale… as have they!
My other hobbies include reading, yoga, pilates and travelling. I adore animals and wildlife. I also like to have a stab at cooking but have had some fairly spectacular catastrophes. This has usually happened when I’ve been overly ambitious – crème brûlées and blow torches, together with exploding liquidisers are just a few memories that I’d rather like to forget! The reality is that I’m a foodie but am probably better off sticking to simpler things and appreciating the culinary skills of others when it comes to anything more complicated.

Author Jesse Rene Gibbs
My name is Jesse Rene Gibbs and I am the author of ‘Girl Hidden.’ I am an artist, designer, dancer and survivor. I am a stepmother to four, Amma to four more, and blessed beyond measure with the family I chose.
This book is based on the true story of my life, gleaned from years of my mother’s writings, my grandmother’s journals and my own experiences. I did my best to showcase the depth of damage that growing up with a narcissistic parent can have on a person, and how hard it is to come to terms with the amount of gaslighting that comes with that life. My siblings all have their own stories of being played against each other, bullied, and even emotionally tortured by our parents. We were trained to not trust our own intuition, raised in a life of poverty, a lack of privacy, and the endlessly traumatising purity culture.
I was hunted in my own home by the man my mother married, and escaped at nineteen to land in an intentional community in Chicago that did nearly as much damage. My best friend in the book is also real, and she did more to walk me through my trauma, and she is the main reason that these stories were finally published.
My new life in Seattle didn’t start until well into my thirties, and I’m still working on deconstructing my life up to that point. I wrote this book to organise my life in my own mind, and to undo years of lies. I also wrote it because others need to know that they are not alone.

Author L Philipp Naughton
The ‘L’ in L. Philipp Naughton is for Laurence. Strangely, on the surface perhaps, the closest name to it is Victor. It was derived from the laurel wreaths given to champions in Roman times. I was born abroad to British parents back in 1957 but we returned to the UK when two years old. We moved around a lot and all over. Schools and friends were difficult and my reading and writing ability suffered. Fortunately this was set right by a wonderful teacher to whom I am eternally grateful. Looking back, ‘being the guy who didn’t fit it in’ helped develop my imagination. My first ‘work’ was at sixteen, a kind of War of the Worlds. That was it. Life got in the way, as it does and writing was reduced to occasional articles for company magazines. I was, however, fortunate to have a mother who had written as a young woman and later became a full-time author when I was about fourteen. The spark that ignited the writing furnace happened in 2011. Not so much the Road to Damascus, rather on a bus going to Edinburgh! I self published my first book in 2017 with several others since. I am married with two children and have lived in Central Scotland since 2005. I’m a constant people and places watcher, both amply providing ideas for characters and storylines. To relax, I have a fairly eclectic DVD collection in many languages, plus going to the theatre, gardening and miniature figure painting. I have been told that I am a cup-handled logic person, always going around the cup to reach the handle rather than direct to it! I don’t have a particularly favourite author but I’ll admit to a soft spot for Alice in Wonderland as far back as I can remember. Some readers ask why I write in different genres. It started as a suggested exercise to broaden the writer’s craft. I so enjoyed the experience, I just wanted to keep doing it. I am actively involved in the following:
- AmWritingFantasy
- Annual short story for the Scottish Book Trust
- November NaNoWriMo challenge (50000 words from 01 to 30 November)
- Author’s Corner for the Keithing (quarterly magazine for the town I live in – Inverkeithing). Currently the magazine is suspended due to lack of funds.

Author Linda Jones
Sadly, I had to leave behind a career as a mental health practitioner. Now I’ve been an independent author and publisher for over seven years. My first books were written for children. As a lover of everything magical and fantastical, they were a joy to write and I still indulge my passion.
In 2022, I decided to take the leap and venture into a new genre and age group. North Run is my first full-length adult crime novel. Moving away from my comfort zone of writing for children was a serious challenge, and a deep learning curve.
The second book in the Sarah Allerton crime series, Shattered Web will be published late in 2023. The third book in the series will be out in 2024.
Between the joys and worry of family life, and the pleasure of being deputy vice-chair of PYA (promoting Yorkshire authors), I’m also working on an illustrated rhyming story for five to seven year olds.

Author Rachel Jones
Born in Ilford, Essex. Lifelong reader, writing poetry from the age of 7 and “stories” from about the same age.
Over the course of the years, I have had poems published in collaborative anthologies, short articles in local media, and once was a restaurant and spa reviewer in Thailand.
I self-published anthology of my own work in May 2022. I was supported and encouraged to write regularly by an emerging authors’ group called The Inkwell Collective. I have released my second anthology this month.
Currently, I am midway through writing a magical realism novel which I hope to release next year.
My husband and I emigrated to Australia in 2011. We have had some real adventures in this amazing Land Down Under! Imagine having to drive 300 miles to get to a post office (it’s a long, long way!)
We live in Katherine, Northern Territory where I’m a member of a local writers’ group. These lovely people are a source of support and inspiration. My style is quite different to the majority of the material that they generate but they took me under their wing, nonetheless.
When I have time, I also run a book-swap stall at our community markets during the Dry Season. The weather is a bit cooler and we have more visitors coming through town. It’s fun and usually involves me drinking coffee and reading books. (A perfect way to spend a morning.)
In the wonderful world of work, I am a Clinical Educator and Remote Area Nurse. The local landscape makes it one of the most terrifyingly beautiful places in the world. It is an unforgiving environment and not for the faint of heart. My work can be demanding; writing is my escape.

Author Sophie Jupillat Posey
I started writing when I was very young. I wrote all kinds of various works: poetry, mystery short stories, then I moved on to fantasy and sci-fi novels. I went to college in 2011 and graduated with a Major in English Lit, and minors in Creative Writing and Music. I had the opportunity to be an intern for Winter with the Writers, where I studied under writers like Karen Russell or N. Scott Momaday. My poetry, stories and music have been published in numerous literary magazines since 2014.
I started off as more of a literary writer, but as time goes on I am falling back into my old beloved genres: paranormal, fantasy and sci-fi. I love writing in various mediums and genres.
In 2019, after querying for years for various novels, I decided to self-publish The Four Suitors. I had some sales, but most importantly my work was out there! But I knew I had much to learn about marketing, networking, and improving my craft.
I have been working on a sci-fi YA novel and am currently editing it. Before its publication this year, I self-published an anthology of my short stories called “The Inside Out Worlds: Visions of Strange,” to whet my readers’ appetites. I have had more success than with my first publication, as my network has grown and so have my skills.
I have also self-published a poetry chapbook called “Offerings to Selene” in English and French. My bilingual children’s book will be available in a couple months. I am a member of Spofest prose and poetry open mic, and a new member with the Angora Poets World Café.
For all these publications, getting my work noticed by just the right readers has been an uphill battle. I hate talking about myself, and promoting my works; all the different ways to market are too numerous and I find myself overwhelmed by the possibilities with little ROI. I really would like help and support to get my books to the perfect audience. That’s what counts for me, is that readers connect with my work. Eventually, if I can become a full-time author, that would be my dream, but I recognize it will take time. (Currently a teacher/online tutor for my day-job)
I lived for a long time in the USA, and managed to figure out publishing and networking over there to some degree. But in 2021, I moved to France and feel I have to relearn everything all over again. How to keep in touch with anglophone readers? I am working on translating some of my existing works in French, to start getting a foot in the door here.

Author Yvonne Marrs
Writing under my family name of Marrs brings a higher possibility of people remembering my name if they are casual browsers. I started out with The Sax Man Plays series and visited many bookshops in London and in the area surrounding my current address, securing book signings and getting physical stock on the shelves. After publishing the first two books with reputable self publishers back in 2007\2010, I still wasn’t happy with the limited creative process afforded by their services. Researching what it would take to become my own publisher, I founded WTSMP Publications to produce future books. Having problems with many eBook producers, I stuck with Amazon KDP, and from the second series – Football Crazy – I concentrated on eBooks only. I’m old fashioned and I love the feel and smell of a paperback, so when I discovered that Amazon had changed from CreateSpace to produce better paperbacks, I dived in. By then, it was 2021, and I had 37 books to turn into paperback format so it took me a while! I suggested that I send the more popular novels to The Book Dragon, in the hope of bringing more readers into The World of Yvonne Marrs. With my experiences, I have coached several other writers to finish writing their books, editing and offering advice, then helping them with the design and formatting process. Once introduced to Draft2Digital, my eBooks are also on Kobo, Apple Books, and other platforms. I have another 10 book ideas in the pipeline, agreeing that in order to live up to the name of a prolific author, 50 books is the target. I have health conditions that limit my activities, meaning that I had to give up my day job in Pharmacy a few years ago. I have limited funds because of this and I’m always looking for ways to promote my work to generate more revenue. I love to have my work educate, entertain and inspire my readers. I’m happy to do any online remote video promotion with my work, and hope to be able to attend public events again in the future.

Author Anna Anderson
Born in Scarborough in 1954, Anna Anderson was adopted at six weeks old. She grew up as a shopkeeper’s daughter in the sleepy market town of Yarm-on-Tees, on the border of North Yorkshire and County Durham. As an only child, her love of reading offered her the chance to escape into incredible childhood adventures and identify with thrilling young characters, as they took her to their imaginary worlds. From six years old, she was hooked on the written word. Her passion to care for, nurture and teach children came to fruition in 1975, when she qualified as a
primary school teacher. Having shaped countless young lives throughout her career, her aim has always been to help children shine brightly and believe in themselves, unlike the ‘Mum’ who adopted and raised her. As an adoptee, a birth mother forced to put up her baby for adoption and also an adoptive parent, the Survival Without Roots series shares these ‘three faces’ of adoption with the reader. Having experienced them all, Anna understands that growing up adopted and an ‘imperfect fit’ can dramatically affect a life and alter its course with devastating consequences. Writing Book One has finally ‘kick-started’ her healing process after sixty years. She hopes it will also help her readers who have experienced similar situations — whether adopted or not — to realise they are not alone. She is determined that her three books will bring all words to do with ‘adoption’ out of the closet and into everyday conversation. Anna is currently writing Survival Without Roots — Book Two which is due for release in June 2023.

Author Antony Wootten
I published my first book, A Tiger Too Many, in 2011. Like most of my books, it is a mid-grade novel with emotive and realistic themes. This one is set during World War 2 and is about a young girl who is desperate to save a tiger in London Zoo – not from German bombs (although they do feature) but from being KBO (killed by order – what we today would call being put down) by the zoo authorities. I wrote it in 2005, and submitted it to agents. It quickly got picked up by Tina Betts from the London-based Andrew Mann literary agency, an AAA member. She loved it, but did not manage to find a publisher for it. However, Tina’s endorsement of the book told me that it was of a publishable standard, which was encouraging. I knew that I would have to publish it myself if I ever wanted it to see the light of day, so, after a re-write or two, that’s what I did.
The book received some great reviews from various independent sources, including LoveReading4Kids, who advertised it as their debut of the month. The Travelling Book Fair, a school libraries service, bought 2000 copies, which I felt was a very exciting development. Since then, I have self-published 4 other books, all of which have been well received by readers young and old, as well as independent reviewers. I’ve done more book-signings than I can count, and in total, I’ve sold nearly 10,000 copies combined. I also visit schools as a visiting author, delivering a range of writing workshops. This is always incredibly good fun! It’s a great way to sell books too.
Since writing my self-published books, I’ve gone on to write for a number of educational publishers including OUP. I’ve written more than 20 books – mostly fiction – for the education market. As well as my fiction for children, I’ve self-published a book of short stories for adults. I entered 3 of the stories into the international Tethered by Letters short story competition. I didn’t win, but two of the stories were shortlisted and one was a runner up. I don’t do anything much to promote that book, but I would like to! I was a primary school teacher for about 18 years, but now I am a full-time freelancer, writing, illustrating, visiting schools and formatting books for other writers.

Author Hazel Goss
I was a primary school teacher and my husband,John, worked in electronics. We moved to Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire, with our two small children, when John was invited to work in the north of England, by his company. John had a gliding accident in 1989 and a few years later I retired. I was able to spend more time with John, but I missed the mental stimulation of my job. I found the solution when I attended a creative writing course. Several years, and many courses later, it was suggested by writing friends that we should form a self-help group which we called The Next Chapter. The group flourished and we engaged speakers. One speaker, Jackie Buxton, an author and lecturer, offered to run a course for us called ‘Write a book in a year’.
Out of this course came my first novel, Forced to Flee. It was inspired by a young refugee from Kosovo who joined my class for a few weeks. He described being in Pristina when bombs fell. I enjoyed doing the necessary research and placed my fictitious characters into the real events. When the book was finished, I felt a sense of loss and used a short story I had written to expand into a time travel book. I called it The Pathway Back. I followed that with The Pathway Forward, using some of the same characters. When that one was finished, I wrote one more to complete the trilogy and called it ‘The Rocky Pathway.

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is. Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays. She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science. Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children, four grandchildren and a dog.

I grew up writing stories and continued that passion into my collegiate career, earning a Bachelor’s of Arts in Professional Writing and English Studies. I am a huge nerd at heart, I love going to Renaissance Faires, and was raised on Lord of the Rings and Eragon. I always loved the idea of new worlds and magical stories. So I took those passions and sculpted them into a story. This story is written out in my first novella “Aria of a Cipher,” and will be continued throughout the series.

Author Rachel Bonner
Rachel J Bonner is the author of the compelling and enthralling four book Choices and Consequences series, paranormal romantic fantasy with underlying Christian themes. The first book in the series, Strand of Faith, was published in November 2018. It was soon followed by Thread of Hope, and then Weave of Love. The story concludes with Cloth of Grace, although Rachel has spin off and associated short stories planned. Rachel has a degree in engineering, which she followed with a career in accountancy which is probably not a conventional path to becoming an author, particularly in fantasy or romance. Rachel says that, although accountancy isn’t anything like as boring as everyone thinks, writing is a lot more fun.
When not writing, she can be found walking in the beautiful countryside near where she lives, which has influenced much of the scenery in her books, or shooting things with her local archery club. Shooting targets only, honest. Nothing to worry about. (Okay, sometimes we shoot Polo mints. Or cabbages. Still nothing to worry about.) She also enjoys swimming, eating chocolate chip cookies and growing aromatic herbs, especially thyme and rosemary. It’s no coincidence that her heroine likes the same things.
You can sign up for Rachel’s newsletters at www.racheljbonner.co.uk, where subscribers also get Trader’s Child, the exclusive free prequel to the Choices and Consequences series.

Author Tracey Gerrard
I live in Leeds West Yorkshire, and work full-time as a Learning Support Assistant. At the age of forty- seven and being an avid reader of romance literature, I set myself a challenge to write a novel. ‘When We Dance’ book 1 in the Ain’t Nobody Series took me just over two years to write and by the time I built up the courage to have it published I was halfway through ‘When We Hurt.’
‘When We Dance’ was published in March 2019 and ‘When We Hurt’ in July 2019. The third book in the series, ‘When We Love’ was published in June 2020. Since then, I have written and published ‘The Deeper We Fall’ in October 2021 and ‘Let Me’ in April 2022.
Both books can be read as standalone or as part of the Ain’t Nobody Series, The Deeper We Fall being more of a prequel. Although all books come under the romance erotica genre, they also come under romantic suspense with LET ME having a thriller element about it. The intimate scenes are tastefully written and not in every chapter like most erotic books. I pay a company to edit, proofread, design the front covers, and because I’m not very technical minded they also format the manuscript and upload it onto my KDP account. I have recently finished my sixth book, ‘Trust In Us’ which is with them at the moment. I expect it to be on Amazon before the end of March. This is the last book that will include characters from the Ain’t Nobody Series for a while as I am now writing a whole new series. (I must stress that the company I use has no rights to my books and only receive one payment for their services on each book.)
When I started writing and had my first two books published, I didn’t know any other self- published authors and struggled to get my books out there. Over the last few years, I have joined various author sites and shared my books with them and I’ve got to know many authors through social media. Besides this, I have paid for promotional posters and book trailers as well as a few amazon sponsored ads.
