Fireflies by Author Carolyn Watson-Dubisch – Book Review

Magical and captivating, Fireflies tells the story of the enchantment of a ferry at night time and the secrets of two sisters.

Pondering into the land of ‘what ifs’, Fireflies asks if those bright creatures we see flying in the sky are actually fireflies or instead something entirely more magical. The pictures are quite cute and bring the story to life although I do think they could have had a bit more finesse.

The story is quite simplistic in plot line and is more of a suggestion that will get children seeing the potential magic in the world rather than anything particularly happening. As such, it does lack pace in places. However, it is a good book for firing up the imagination and creativity of our little ones. I also liked the personal relevance of the story for the author as explained at the end of the story; the additional facts included at the end were also a nice feature. Overall, the language is chosen well for the target audience although there are places where the punctuation could be a little tighter.

The Book Dragon reviewed this magical little tale on behalf of the author and believes it is a strong 3 star novel.
